Estate and Planned Giving
What types of planned gifts does MCF accept?
BEQUEST INTENTIONS – Your bequest may be revocable or irrevocable and may be for a specific amount or percentage of the residual value.
LIFE INSURANCE – Name MCF as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy and the benefits from your policy will pass to MCF free of federal estate tax.
RETIREMENT PLAN GIFTS – Naming MCF as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified retirement plan is simple, flexible and tax-efficient. If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can make an annual contribution up to $100,000 directly from your traditional IRA to MCF without it being considered a taxable distribution.
REAL ESTATE – Donating land for conservation is one of the finest legacies you can leave for future generations. MCF will steward land with conservation value or convert the asset to cash for other projects.
What are the benefits of planned giving?
TO THE DONOR:
- Creation of a legacy that expresses your convictions.
- Potential income tax or estate advantages, or both, for you and your heirs.
- Maximize your impact with a planned gift during your lifetime or after.
TO MCF:
- Informing MCF of your estate plans provides insight into potential future funds, allowing us to thank you now and recognize your gift according to your wishes.

How will my gift be used?
A planned gift through MCF is a meaningful way to achieve your personal and philanthropic goals. Your gift ensures the ongoing stability of MCF and will be used to further our mission. You can allow MCF to use the funds where they are needed most or support a specific program.
If you are considering a restricted gift, please talk with MCF staff to help you include the proper language in your planning documents.
